Application of Generative AI to Enhance Practical Teaching of Computer Programming Using a High-Level Language
Welcome to our groundbreaking research project, "Application of Generative Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Practical Teaching of Computer Programming Using a High-Level Language," funded by the Kenya Education Network (KENET) with a grant of Ksh. 1,500,000. Our mission is to revolutionize computer programming education by integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) into the teaching process, creating personalized and practical learning experiences that enhance the effectiveness of programming education. Leading this project is Dr. Geoffrey Mariga from the Department of Information Technology at Murang'a University of Technology, alongside Dr. Faith Mueni Musyoka from the University of Embu Department of Computing and Information Technology, Dr. Eric Omuya from Machakos University, Dr. Joyce Gikandi from Mount Kenya University, and Mr. Fredrick Muema, a MSc. student in Information Technology at Murang'a University of Technology. Our primary objectives are to leverage the power of generative AI to enhance teaching methodologies, provide students with customized learning materials and practical exercises, increase student engagement and comprehension of complex programming concepts, and address traditional challenges in programming education with innovative AI-driven solutions. This research holds significant promise for the future of computer science education. By utilizing advanced AI techniques, we aim to bridge gaps in current teaching methods, fostering a more interactive and adaptive learning environment. The outcomes are expected to benefit educators and students across various educational institutions, ultimately contributing to the advancement of IT education in Kenya and beyond. Join us on this transformative journey as we harness the potential of generative AI to shape the next generation of computer programming education.
